Rosemarie Niznik, DVM, CVA, CVSMT
Growing up in Northeastern Pennsylvania, I dreamed of becoming a veterinarian since grade school. In 1990, I obtained my goal when I graduated from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. I enjoyed practicing small animal medicine and surgery while working in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania as a full time day practice and part- time Emergency veterinarian. I gained valuable conventional veterinary medicine and surgical experience in a variety of hospitals during my career. I was exposed to alternative therapies during my early career while working with local colleagues and during Continuing Education Seminars . During my veterinary career, I added some of the more mainstream therapies to my conventional practice of veterinary medicine. A painful spinal injury caused me to seek alternative therapies when conventional medicine treatments did not resolve the pain or injury. This experience sparked my interest to explore alternative therapy options for the animals in my care. After running out of conventional treatment options for chronic arthritis pain in my own dog, Nikki, I decided to commit to an Integrative Veterinary Medical career. I enrolled in the 2011 Fall Mixed Animal Class at the Chi Institute for Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine. I passed the Course to be able to practice veterinary acupuncture in dog, cats, and horses. Inspired to further my education in TCVM, I immediately enrolled in Chinese Herbology online courses offered at the Chi Institute. I learned about prescribing Herbal Medications to treat disease conditions in addition to acupuncture treatments. Wanting to learn additional therapies to be available to apply a holistic approach to treating veterinary patients, I am currently attending courses at the Chi Institute of TCVM and College of Veterinary Integrative Therapies in Veterinary Acupuncture, Tui-na, Food Therapy and Herbal Medicine. I plan to complete final Certification in all modalities in 2018.
